MHS aims to increase the opportunities
for people with disabilities to become more involved in
their local community. MHS encourages volunteers to support
individuals in areas which they may have a passion or skill
to share with a like minded individual.
Volunteers are in a unique position of developing relationships
with people on a basis of friendship and support. ‘A
volunteer is there because they want to be’ which
means a lot to the person being supported .
Through connecting like minded
people together the natural progression is that friendship
develops. Quote: “ I don’t
see myself as a volunteer, now I’m just a good friend” –
(Caz Ingram , Volunteer with MHS for 1 ½ yrs)

Human Services Inc. recognizes the valuable contribution
and difference volunteers make in a person’s life.
So in appreciation, MHS strives to give a little something
back in the following ways:
• MHS facilitates a volunteer
social group that meets regularly. This is a great
way for volunteers to meet each other, expand their
own social networks, be involved in fun social activities
(eg. BBQ’s,
car rallys), and a chance to share experiences and ideas.
• MHS produces and distributes
a volunteer newsletter to keep every body connected.
• MHS has a rewards scheme that is tracked by the
amount of hours volunteered
• MHS will cover the cost of obtaining a police check
• As every volunteer will attest however; the biggest
reward for our volunteers is sharing time and experiences
with the person they support
